About AdmiNZ

AdmiNZ, the Association of Administrative Professionals New Zealand Incorporated – Te Kawarangi (AdminNZ Inc), stands as a beacon for administrative professionals seeking to excel in an ever-evolving landscape.

Governed by a dedicated Board, we are a not-for-profit, voluntary national association.

AdmiNZ helps address the changing roles and demanding responsibilities you face by providing year-round access to outstanding new knowledge and a vital community for those in administrative roles, from newcomers to seasoned experts.

AdmiNZ’s certification, unique in New Zealand, benchmarks administrative excellence, offering pathways for career progression. Certification provides an umbrella over three areas that need to be achieved to show the skills required by the administrative professional. This makes it an invaluable benchmark for those in the role, and for employers.

Administrators from all types of businesses in New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and even other parts of the world, join the Association of Administrative Professionals New Zealand Incorporated (AdmiNZ) for opportunities to learn and grow in their role, develop contacts and get a better understanding of how important their role is to any business.

This supportive network is crucial for personal and professional development, offering a platform for administrators from diverse sectors to learn, grow, and achieve recognition in their careers.

Te Reo Name

Te Kawarangi

After three years of consultation and agreement, Te Kawarangi was made a part of the official name at the 2006 AGM in Palmerston North. ‘Kawarangi’ is a term given to a form of plaiting used in ornamental borders of cloaks. Metaphorically, it relates to our key function as administrators; in our ability to coordinate and manage a broad range of activities that enhance the overall role of the organisations we work for.

A Māori name, in addition to our formal title, was considered by AAPNZ members to add a distinctive cultural dimension and value to our name.

As a membership organisation, we are always looking to increase our membership and be inclusive. Having a te reo name and supporting this unique aspect of New Zealand culture, Māori customs such as karakia (prayer), mihi (greeting), and waiata (song) are embraced by our association.

We also acknowledge that:

  • Under the Māori Language Act 1987, Māori became an official language of New Zealand;
  • The use of the Māori Language defines who we are as a nation, and internationally gives us a unique global identity;
  • Many other organisations, government bodies, and associations throughout New Zealand have bilingual signage.
  • Te Kawarangi is a name that members of AAPNZ can pronounce, write and interpret easily; and in placing value on this name, it symbolises the significant contribution of our members.

As our membership grows and develops, the Association of Administrative Professionals New Zealand Inc. – Te Kawarangi will endeavour to strengthen the ties of those members.
